Student Identity Verification and Privacy Policy

To access secure online resources (e.g. academic and financial records) and submit content within the College Learning Management Systems (LMS), students are required to authenticate with their College provided username and password. Use of this username and password implies that the student – and that student alone – is the person submitting assignments, completing assessments, and engaging in activities related to their coursework. If the College discovers or reasonably suspects that a student has enlisted someone else to complete assignments or assessments using the student’s username and password (impersonation), they will be referred to the student conduct system and, if found in violation of this policy, will be subject to disciplinary action as outlined in the Student Handbook section on Academic Dishonesty (https://www.lycoming.edu/student-handbook/). Students should never share their username and password with anyone. The intention of this policy is to protect sensitive information and privacy of students in accordance with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA). Thus, with the exception of certain assignments that instructors designate to be shared with classmates, coursework will not be accessible by anyone else except the course instructor – and, if necessary, by ITS support personnel.

Students are required to change their password every 365 days. Lycoming College provides three methods for current students to change or reset their password. Password requirements include: minimum 8 alphanumeric characters, upper and lower case letters and/or special characters,

  1. Change Password - If the student has previously registered for the Password Manager system (http://passwordreset.lycoming.edu) they are able to provide their current username and password to authenticate. They are then asked to provide the old password, enter a new password, and then confirm the new password.
  2. Reset Password (forgotten) - If the student has previously registered for the Password Manager system (http://passwordreset.lycoming.edu) they are able to provide their current username. They are then asked to answer two security questions that were set by the student when enrolling in the Password Manager system.
  3. Contact ITS Help - If the student has not previously registered for the Password Manager system and requires help changing or resetting their password, they are able to contact ITS Help in person or via 570-321-4150. The student will be required to show or submit their student ID, which includes a photo, to verify their identity.
