Archaeology Learning Goals
Students who major in archaeology can expect to achieve the following learning goals:
- Develop an understanding of the major foundational concepts, methods and theories in the field of Archaeology
- Articulate empirical research questions and hypotheses, with logical plans of data collection and analysis
- Demonstrate knowledge of ethical issues relevant to preservation and cultural heritage
- Demonstrate knowledge of the archaeological record for a chosen culture area
- Demonstrate basic competence in at least one language appropriate to the chosen culture area
- Gain practical experience in archaeological field methods, lab methods, and/or museum work
- Develop effective critical thinking, oral and written communication, information literacy and research skills
