International education

Two Lycoming College students will continue their international educational experience after graduation when they pursue graduate degrees in London, England.

Mai Nguyen, an economics major, will pursue a master’s in economics at the London School of Economics and Ngan Le, a business-finance major, has been accepted into the financial mathematics program at King’s College London. Both students are from Hanoi, Vietnam.

“When I spoke to my family about deciding whether to go to work after graduation or graduate school, they encouraged me to continue to study economics,” Nguyen said. “I am interested in local economic development and I would love to take a macroeconomic scope.”

Nguyen said she studied abroad in the United Kingdom last year and loved it, which also helped her to make the decision to study internationally.

Le would like to take her knowledge back to her hometown. “I want to go into bank analysis,” she said. “I like working with numbers.” She also would like to eventually teach at a large international university.

“I would like to apply what I’ve learned here at Lycoming back home,” Le said. “In Vietnam, we don’t apply practical knowledge to our studies, but we do here.”

Nguyen cited Drs. Bonita Kolb, associate professor of business administration, and Elizabeth Moorhouse, assistant professor of economics, as extremely encouraging in the application process.

Le said Dr. Georg Grassmueck, assistant professor of business administration, talked a lot about his international experiences, which help motivate her to study abroad.
