Academic Recommendations

In general, students preparing to attend a theological seminary should examine the suggestions set down by the Association of Theological Schools (available from TPAC). Recommended is a broad program in the liberal arts with a major in one of the humanities:

  • English
  • History
  • Foreign Languages & Literatures
  • Literature
  • Philosophy
  • Religion

OR one of the social sciences:

  • American Studies
  • Criminal Justice
  • Economics
  • International Studies
  • Political Science
  • Psychology
  • Anthropology-Sociology

Students preparing for a career in religious education should major in religion and elect five or six courses in Psychology, Education, and Sociology.

This program of study will qualify students to work as educational assistants or directors of religious education after graduate study in a theological seminary.
