Charles D. Springman

Business administration, 1959

Former senior vice president of operations for Lord and Taylor Department Stores

I earned a master's in retailing from the University of Pittsburgh in 1960 and served four years in the U.S. Air Force, attaining the rank of Staff Sergeant.

Upon my retirement, my wife, Shirley, and I returned to the Williamsport area where I took on full-time volunteer work for numerous nonprofit organizations, government agencies and the United Methodist Church. I have volunteered with many organizations including the American Rescue Workers, Lycoming County Food Bank, Salvation Army, Blooming Grove Historical Society and Little League International.

I am a trustee emeritus of the College and remain active on several committees. I recently was elected a 33rd Degree Mason based on my major contributions to society throughout my lifetime, an honor bestowed on only one half of one percent of all Masons. I also received the Angela R. Kyte Outstanding Alumnus Award in 2012, which is given to an alumnus/a who has demonstrated a lifetime of service to humanity and whose life exemplifies those qualities encouraged and fostered at Lycoming.
