Education: Coordinator of Field Experiences
Kris Datres earned her B.A. from Lycoming College and graduated in 1975 with a degree in English with secondary education certification. She recently retired from the Williamsport Area School District after 34 year of teaching English/language arts at Curtin Middle School.
She returned to Lycoming in 1995 as a volunteer to help organize the Urban Collaborative Teaching Program which offered pre-service teachers an opportunity to work in the urban environment of Williamsport schools. From 2000 to 2003, Kris was the teacher facilitator for the Lycoming-Sullivan County Performance Standards Consortium, helping area teachers learn to incorporate the state standards into their lessons.
In 1987, Kris was the producer of a video that helped to illustrate how public schools had changed in response to a taxpayers' revolt in Williamsport. In 1989 her article "The Charming Awards," was published in NCTE’s Notes Plus. In addition, she authored "A Teacher's Spelling Manual for Seventh Grade."
Kris is the Coordinator of Field Experiences for the Education Department. Her responsibilities include finding placements for education students in local schools so they can observe and then eventually student teach. She enjoys being back on campus to assist the next generation of teachers.
