Note: The Highlands circuit included appointments at Burlington borough, Luthers Mills, Mountain Lake, Union Church and Hickory Grove.  In the Methodist Episcopal Church, this area was in the Central New York Conference.   The weakness of the Evangelical Association there, compared to the strength of the Methodist Episcopal Church, undoubtedly contributed to the 1889 transfer of denominations.  This surname is also given as GALLAGHER.

Note: Benjamin Garrison lived near Grover, Bradford County, and served as a local preacher.  Soon after 1890, he and others from Bradford County moved to the vicinity of Richmond VA.  He established some preaching appointments and asked the Conference to send an ordained itinerant to supply the work, but the 1891-94 denominational division and other factors prevented this from happening.

Note: William L. Gendall is the nephew of Francis Gendall (1845-1902) of the Wyoming Conference of the Methodist Episcopal Church.  While a student at Wyoming Seminary he served Plainville and Old Forge in the Wyoming Conference of the Methodist Episcopal Church.  He served in mission situations and supported himself by working as an electrical contractor.  In 1905 established Grace mission in Wilkes-Barre and continued in the work for 18 years.  For 63 years (1894-1857) he served as chaplain and leader of religious services at the Retreat State Hospital.
