Note: The given name is sometimes rendered EARNEST.  A biographical sketch of Ernest A. Rayner appears on page 341 of the 1926 Drew Alumni Record.  He graduated from Cornell College [Mount Vernon, IA] in 1901, and from Drew Theological Seminary in 1904.  In 1915 he received one of the first two Doctor of Theology degrees granted by Drew.  The Blue Ridge-Atlantic Conference was an ME [i.e., not MES] conference in western North Carolina 1912-1939.  Presumably Ernest A. Rayner taught in one of the conference’s educational institutions.  Ernest A. Rayner is the father of Rev. Ernest A. Rayner of the Grafton, Australia, congregation of the Free Presbyterian Church of Scotland.  Some biographical information on Ernest A. Note: William Hirst Reed was originally from Lewistown, Mifflin County PA.  Apparently named for William Hirst (1815-1862) of the Baltimore Conference, he served as a colonel in the Civil War and entered the ministry after the War.  The March 1896 Central Pennsylvania Conference journal, page 63 states, "In the early part of the summer the Rev. W. Hirst Reed, a supernumerary member of the Baltimore Conference, not withstanding his impaired health, took charge of the Epworth Mission, in the western part of Altoona."  He appears to have retired to Altoona to care for his widowed mother.
