Gethsemane was formed in 1988 by the union
of Allport, Centre Hill, Kylertown, and Munson.
The united congregation met in the former Kylertown structure until the
new building was erected.

congregations. The united congregation
worshiped in the former Centre building until the present structure was opened

This congregation erected its first church
building in 1872 on the southeast corner of Clara and Charles Streets. The present building on the southwest corner
of Clara and Good Streets was erected in 1881.
Since then, the bell tower at the corner of the building and the side
room were added – and a new entrance was constructed apart from the bell
tower. Following the 1939 denominational
union, the Houtzdale Methodist Protestant Church on the northeast corner of Sue
and Brisbin Streets, united with this congregation in 1941.

Kerr addition was begun in 1914 as a
residential area for miners and other workers.
Rev. Michael S. Derstine, pastor the of the Eleventh Street [Emmanuel]
Methodist Episcopal Church in Clearfield started a fund toward the erection of
a church building in Kerr Addition. A
site was given, and the building was dedicated July 30, 1922.

This congregation’s first
church was called Otterbein and erected in 1858 about 1.5 miles southeast of
the present location in the Decaturville – Mock Hill area. A Sunday School was established in 1877. In 1904 that church building was moved to the
present West Decatur site and in 1905 a parsonage was built. Being the site of the parsonage, West Decatur
became the name for the five-church United Brethren circuit that included West
Decatur, Sandy Ridge, New Castle, Ohio and Sandborn.
In 1920, both the church and the parsonage
were destroyed by fire. A new parsonage
was purchased, and the cornerstone for the present concrete block building was
laid July 23, 1923.
