Note:  Lyman Hamilton Mumford graduated from Cazenovia Seminary in 1830.   The family history records that he retired from the ministry due to poor health in 1840 when he was living in Kingston Township, Luzerne County.  At the time he was a partner with his brother-in-law Levi Cooke Rice in the Rice and Mumford Mill in Lehman Township and in a general store.  Lyman and Margaret made their home on a high hill between Toby's Creek and the Rice homestead on Harris Hill Road.  By 1848 he had moved back to New York, and in 1850 he was living in Utica NY.  In 1883 he was listed as having a dry goods, grocery and crockery store at 16 South Street in Utica and living at 2 Chatham Street.  Mrs. Mumford is the daughter of Jacob Rice.
