Lycoming College Bands

Instrumental Music

The instrumental music program serves many functions and provides a vehicle through which qualified and talented students can express themselves musically, while sharpening their skills as amateurs or professionals. The program also provides a social community for students from across the College with common interests.

Lycoming College Concert Band

An ensemble of approximately 55 members, the Concert Band is comprised of woodwind, brass, and percussion players who perform wind band literature. The band performs five times annually on campus. In addition, the ensemble tours at the end of the spring semester. Membership is open to all campus students by audition.

Each Homecoming, the band takes to the football stands to support the team. Click here to hear the fight song.

Lycoming College Jazz Ensemble

In the fall of 2002 the Lycoming College Jazz Ensemble was formed. The group is selected by audition and rehearses twice a week during the regular semester.

Chamber Music

Members of the Lycoming College Woodwind and Brass Quintets are selected from the membership of the Concert Band. Presidential Scholarships are awarded to those who audition and are accepted into either quintet. These ensembles perform for campus events as well as for services in the community. Additionally, instrumental choirs, performing the music of Gabrieli and Schubert, are regularly featured as part of Concert Band programs. These small ensembles provide the opportunity to develop each student's musical responsibility and sensitivity within the group.
