Mary L. Welch Theatre

Four shows are produced each season in the Mary L. Welch Theatre, our intimate thrust stage. Located in the Academic Center, the theatre seats 204 people. Students work with state-of-the-industry equipment, including ETC’s Ion console — integrating traditional theatrical lighting equipment with modern intelligent moving fixtures — and Figure 53’s Q-Lab software to control sound effects and projections.

The theatre lobby features exhibitions by Lycoming College art students, showcases the work of our award-winning design students, and houses our student-managed box office.

The Mary L. Welch Theatre, in addition to being the mainstage home for Lycoming College Theatre Department productions, also serves as a venue for a variety of outside events, productions, and collaborative projects within the greater Williamsport area.

Dragon’s Lair Theatre

The Dragon's Lair Theatre (DLT), our flexible black-box theatre on the Academic Center lower level, is home to a variety of student-produced shows and class showcases. It serves as an experimental and instructional space for Theatre department students. The multifunctional performance space is equipped with lighting instruments selected specifically for this intimate and versatile theatre, a remotely controlled booth which allows the Stage Manager to control productions through live feed monitoring, ETC’s Nomad Puck lighting control, and Figure 53 QLab audio/visual software.

Scene Shop

The scene shop is a professionally equipped shop that fabricates scenery and props for Lycoming College productions, and for professional theaters across the region. The shop is equipped to fabricate in wood, metal, and plastics—commonly used across the industry. The shop has an integrated dust collection system, an industrial SawStop table saw, and a ShopBot PRS CNC machine, just to name a few of our state of the industry tools. From complex metal structures to the traditional Broadway Flat, our shop can fabricate it—and teach you how! To get a better sense of our versatility, please take a look at our production photos.

Design Studio

Our students have 24-hour access to our Design Studio which serves both the classroom and production experiences. This space was designed to facilitate the collaborative discussions vital to our industry, as well as the technical needs of our busy department. Whether you are using our whiteboard tables, our RockStock 3D printer, and/or the Mac computers loaded with AutoCad, Vectorworks, and Adobe’s Creative Suite, not to mention other state of the industry software, this space is where the technical theatre magic which supports the performers is visualized, and where the plans for bringing it to life are made.

Costume Shop

The Costume Shop provides costume production assistance for all mainstage Theatre Department productions, serves as a key point of collaboration for a number of projects in the greater Lycoming County area, and is a learning space for costume design and construction classes. Our students build costumes through a variety of leading industry techniques under the supervision of a multiple award-winning Costume Technician with over 20 years of professional experience.

The Costume Shop also maintains a large number of stock items and boasts a variety of equipment, including an industrial sewing machine and a 3D printer.
