Dr. Franz, Jeff Musselman, Stacy Howerter, and Matt Zarzyczny enjoy the warmth of AA spectroscopy while analyzing a sample for Calcium concentration.

Atomic Absorption Spectrscopy (AA) is an important spectrophotometric technique for analyzing samples for a particular element. The spectrophotometer uses an acetylene flame as the sample cell and measures the characteristic absorption of different atomic species within the flame. It is capable of great sensitivity in limits of detection for various analytes. Our AA spectrometer is a Perkin-Elmer 373 model.
