Sloter Endowed Professor in Entrepreneurship/ Senior Lecturer

Jay Azriel brings 20 years of academic experience to the position of Sloter Endowed Professor of Entrepreneurship at Lycoming College. He works with colleagues to provide students of any major the opportunity to learn about the entrepreneurial mindset. He uses his philosophy of “one should be able to earn a living doing what they love” to destigmatize business courses for liberal arts students. Azriel incorporates experiential learning into his courses to teach his students what it means to be an entrepreneur. He believes that his students should be involved in the community and presents various opportunities for them to engage with local entrepreneurs.

His research in entrepreneurship has earned the prestigious Entrepreneurship Theory & Practice's Best Conceptual Paper Award and an Eastern Academy of Management Fellow's Best Case Award. He has authored both empirical articles and teaching cases.

Prior to entering academia, Azriel worked for a number of organizations up and down the eastern seaboard in both the public and private sectors. He also consults with small companies and not-for-profits.

Azriel earned his Ph.D. at the University at Albany School of Business and his MBA in International Business & Finance from American University, Washington, D.C. He also attended courses at the Rockefeller College of Public Affairs & Policy where he studied systems thinking and consulting for not-for-profit organizations.
