Born and raised in Hong Kong, Dr. Patrick Chiu is a conductor, educator, stage director, and composer. Having lived in various parts of the world, Patrick places great importance on the idea of musicians from different cultures working for a better world. During his period of residency in Vienna, Patrick has participated in various professional performances and received tuition from professors at the Vienna Konservatorium. Later he earned a scholarship to study at the University of Cincinnati’s College-Conservatory of Music, where he received his Master in Music (Choral Conducting). He then earned a Master in Music (Opera Stage Directing) and Doctor of Philosophy in Music Education (Choral Conducting) at Florida State University. During his stay in Europe and the United States, he has worked with and studied under world-renowned maestros including Helmuth Rilling and Harry Christophers. In recent years, his choral-physical theatre productions have injected innovation and vibrancy into the international arts scene. Recent fully-staged productions include Monteverdi’s Madrigals of War and Love, Handel’s Messiah, Bach’s St. John Passion and St. Mark Passion, and Pergolesi’s Stabat Mater. As a composer, his award-winning works have been presented in Austria, Australia, Basque Country, China, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Hungary, Japan, Korea, Macau, Malaysia, New Zealand, Portugal, Russia, Singapore, Spain, Taiwan, Turkey, UK, and USA.
