Areas of Expertise: Trumpet
Dale Orris, an alumnus of Susquehanna University, is well-known throughout central and eastern Pennsylvania as a music educator and performer. He is a former lead trumpeter and jazz soloist with the Glenn Miller Orchestra and the Buddy Rich Big Band.
After teaching instrumental music in the Lewisburg Area School District for many years, he now holds the position of adjunct professor of trumpet at Bucknell University and Lycoming College.
In addition to his teaching positions, Orris performs with the Williamsport Symphony Orchestra as principal trumpet and is a member of the Commonwealth Brass Quintet and the Lycoming Brass Quintet. He also performs with many jazz groups throughout central and eastern Pennsylvani, New Jersey, and Maryland including the Buzz Jones Big Band, Rob Stoneback Big Band, Zeropointe Big Band, River City Big Band and the Williamsport City Jazz Orchestra.
Over the years Orris has had the opportunity to play behind great artists including Natalie Cole, Johnny Carson, Mel Torme, Bill Watrous, Aretha Franklin, Mannheim Steamroller, Tony Bennett, Rosemary Clooney, Lou Rawls, The Temptations and many others.
Dale Orris is active as an adjudicator and clinician and is a former Pennsylvania State President of the International Association of Jazz Educators (IAJE).
