Emily A. Wertz, soprano, is a versatile singer and teacher, specializing in the performance and teaching of both classical and musical theater repertoire.

She is passionate about equipping singers to use their natural voice freely and healthily, empowering them to grow in their knowledge, confidence, musicianship, and performance skills. In addition to teaching private voice for almost 20 years and her work at Lycoming College, Emily teaches at The Music Academy in State College, PA. She has taught choral & general music in the public school setting, and was the artistic director of the Williamsport Youth Choir from 2013-2020. She has guest conducted middle and high school choral festivals in Centre, Clearfield, and Lycoming Counties.

Emily’s performance experience extends from opera and musical theater to oratorio work and solo recitals. She has performed many leading roles, including both Gretel and the Witch in Humperdinck’s Hansel and Gretel, Lucy in The Telephone and Laetitia in The Old Maid and the Thief by Menotti, and Amalia Balash in She Loves Me by Bock and Harnick. She has been heard as a soloist with the Essence of Joy Alumni Singers, Juniata College Choral Union, Harrower Opera Workshop, Lycoming College choirs, The Williamsport Symphony Orchestra, The Williamsport Civic Chorus, and the Williamsport Chamber Choir and Orchestra.

In addition to her musical endeavors, Emily is a life coach, working one on one with clients to help them to get unstuck, take their next best step personally and professionally, and pursue the things that bring life and make a positive impact on the world. She enjoys utilizing her coaching skills in the voice studio as well, helping her students lay aside limiting beliefs and habits and develop clear steps to realize their goals so they may step fully into opportunities with confidence and joy.

Emily holds a B.S. in Music Education, an M.M. in Voice Performance and Pedagogy, and a Professional Performance Certificate, all from The Pennsylvania State University. In addition, she is a certified Go + Tell Gals Coach.
