Social Media Guidelines for Faculty and Staff
If you maintain a personal blog or presence on a social media site and there is no indication that you represent Lycoming College by content, you need not be concerned with these guidelines.
If you are interested in creating a social media presence to represent the College, please do the following:
- Inform Marketing and Communications to register your social media site with the College. A list of registered social media sites for all academic and administrative departments will be maintained.
- Inform Marketing and Communications who will manage the social media site.
- View the Policies and Procedures for Acceptable Use at www.lycoming.edu/its/policies/.
- Add the “Standard Disclaimer” to your social media site, as depicted below.
Marketing and Communications recommends having a social media plan in place prior to creating a social media presence. Marketing and Communications has included guidelines for creating a social media presence on the “Beginning Social Media at Lycoming” page. You should also review the “Best Practices.”
These guidelines were developed to assist Lycoming College faculty and staff in their use of social media on behalf of the College. This includes, but is not limited to, social media accounts created to represent academic and administration departments. All representatives of the College are responsible for following all normal expectations for professional behavior.
It is important to note as well that applications developed for any mobile devices and that use the College’s name, seal or other institutionally identifiable information should meet the standards in the Policies and Procedures and in these guidelines as well.

Standard Disclaimer:
This site is the official Lycoming College (insert academic or administrate department name) page. Please respect the rights, opinions and privacy of others. We will delete any posts that we feel are inappropriate or offensive. The guest posts on this page do not reflect the opinions or beliefs of the College.
Admissions has used a variation of this:
Here's to you, Class of 2021! A Facebook page dedicated to all of you. Use it to connect with others who are in your class, ask questions, find a roommate, etc. We think it's important to give you your own space online to mix and mingle before you move to campus.
With that being said, some of our faculty and staff members may stop in to answer your questions or welcome you to our online community, so please keep it clean. We can delete any content that we feel is inappropriate or offensive (but we hope we won’t have to).
