Snowden Borrowing

Students

  • Borrowing items: Your college ID is your library card. Materials will not be checked out to you without it! Journals and reference books do not circulate.
  • Loan limits:
    • Books from the general collection and leisure reading circulate for 16 weeks with one renewal, but are always due at the end of the semester or term. Books can be renewed unless a hold has been placed on a particular book.
    • Board Games, Video Games, and DVDs circulate for 7 days with one renewal. Students will be billed $85, $70 for the replacement fee and a non-refundable $15 processing fee, for lost or damaged games or videos.
    • We offer supplies, equipment, and other kits. They are available at the circulation desk and have various loan periods of two hours or four hours. Fines depend on the type of item. Generally, lost or damaged equipment such as phone chargers or headphones will result in a $50 charge, $35 for replacement and a non-refundable $15 processing fee. Other items, such as a graphing calculator, will result in an $85 charge.
    • Professors may place physical books or DVDs on reserve for class use (called academic reserves). Many of these materials must be used in the library within a two- or four-hour time span. Others can be checked out up to three days. Be sure to observe the time or day that the reserve item is due. Overdue reserve materials are charged at the rate of $1 per hour.
  • Fines: You will be charged for overdue or lost items. Lost materials should be reported to the Circulation Desk immediately. Students will be billed $85, $70 for the replacement fee and a non-refundable $15 processing fee, for lost or damaged books.
    • We may need to recall an item if it is requested by another. Recalled materials not returned within 2 days are fined at the rate of $2 per day.

Faculty and Staff

  • Books circulate for 16 weeks at a time. Lycoming faculty and staff are not subject to fines and often keep materials for a longer period of time. Books may be recalled if requested by another user. Periodicals may be checked out by faculty and staff overnight. Reference books do not circulate.
