Snowden Library Community Standards
Purpose
The Community Standards are designed to encourage behaviors that reflect and promote a welcoming, safe, and inclusive library for everyone. All library users are partners in supporting this environment.
Introduction
Snowden Library abides by Federal laws, the statues of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, local ordinances, the Lycoming College Student Handbook, and other college policies that guide behavior on campus. The Community Standards outline actions and behaviors that are important to the library.
Standards
To maintain an inclusive and safe environment, we ask all library users to:
- Treat all library users and staff with kindness and respect.
- Be mindful of your surroundings and those around you. The library provides various spaces for silent and collaborative work. Choose a space that supports your needs and be aware of the needs of others.
- Talk on your cell phone using headphones, outside of the library, or in spaces where you will not disturb others.
- Help keep the library safe by reporting potentially unsafe situations to staff.
- Keep the library clean by disposing of personal garbage and recycling and avoid eating near computer areas.
- Care for library materials, equipment, and furniture to preserve them for future use.
- Use the library’s collections with respect for copyright law. To learn more about the College’s copyright policy, please visit the library’s webpage about copyright.
- Keep your belongings safe by not leaving them unattended. Snowden Library is not responsible for lost or missing items.
- Be aware that community borrowers may use the computers, but we reserve the right to give preference to Lycoming College students, faculty, and staff.
- Refrain from soliciting for donations and signatures or operating a business in the library building.
The following behaviors are prohibited in the library:
- Using alcohol, tobacco/vaping products, or controlled substances.
- Sexual activity or lewd behavior.
- Using, possessing, or storing weapons of any kind.
- Leaving minors under 18 and not currently enrolled at Lycoming College unsupervised. Parents or guardians are responsible for their child(ren)’s behavior.
Please contact the library’s Administrative Support Coordinator with questions or comments about Snowden Library’s Community Standards. They will forward your communication to the appropriate person.
