In 2018, Lycoming College began a project to enhance the Robert L. Shangraw Athletic Complex to reflect the College's aspirations of excellence in athletics and for Lycoming. The initial work included a significant investment from the College to widen the lacrosse and soccer field and to install a new artificial turf surface. It also included the installation of a new scoreboard in 2019 to improve game-day operations and viewing, while providing a platform to recognize UPMC Susquehanna's partnership and commitment to Lycoming through a gift to name UPMC Field.
The Lycoming board of trustees has now authorized fundraising information for a second phase of improvements to the Complex. The vision includes the construction of a stadium and an outdoor lighting system for the soccer and lacrosse field, a new concession area and apparel store, and improvements to the tailgating and parking areas. The 500+ capacity stadium will include a viewing suite, two locker rooms, an athletic training space, and public restrooms. The proposed concession area and apparel store will improve the fan experience and provide a new viewing plaza for football, lacrosse, and soccer games.
The enhancements to the Robert L. Shangraw Athletic Complex will directly affect Lycoming's ability to nationally recruit and retain the highest caliber student-athletes by building one of the very best Division III athletic facilities. The College currently seeks leadership gift commitments in support of the $2.5 million athletic facility project. Permanent naming opportunities are available.
