Accelerated Nursing Program Affiliation with DeSales University

A partnership with DeSales University provides Lycoming College students with the opportunity to graduate with a bachelor of science or bachelor of arts degree from Lycoming College before pursuing an Accelerated Bachelor of Science in Nursing (ABSN) from DeSales University, an accredited, highly sought nursing school. Multiple majors at Lycoming College can serve as pathways to the DeSales 15-month degree program, with biology, biochemistry, and chemistry fulfilling many of the prerequisites.

Students must first complete a bachelor’s degree at Lycoming College before pursuing an ABSN (Accelerated Bachelor or Science in Nursing) from DeSales University.

The ABSN at DeSales touts a long history of delivering a high quality nursing education with an average National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX) first-time pass rate of 96.67 percent.

DeSales will admit up to five Lycoming College students every year. To qualify, students must have earned a bachelor’s degree from Lycoming with a cumulative grade point average of 2.75 or higher. Admission requirements to DeSales can be fulfilled by the Lycoming College Human Anatomy, Human Physiology, Medical Microbiology, Organic Chemistry, Statistics, and Lifespan Development courses.

An abundance of hands-on experiences facilitated by Lycoming College, such as faculty-led research, internships, and job shadowing opportunities with nationally recognized health systems prepare students for entry to nursing school. In addition, students find support through pre-health society programming, field trips, and guest speakers, as well as through Lycoming’s Health Professions Advisory Committee, and close faculty mentorship that is emblematic of the liberal arts and sciences education provided to all students at Lycoming.

With faculty dedicated exclusively to the education of undergraduate students, the College’s liberal arts emphasis on courses that require critical thought ensures that talented, diligent students will be ready for an accelerated nursing program.

Lycoming students must indicate their interest in the ABSN program by the fall of their sophomore year. ABSN students will be assigned junior-level status when they begin their studies at DeSales for financial aid purposes.
