Trachte Music Center

Every year, more than 200 Lycoming students engage in music making on Lycoming’s campus through participation in choir, band, orchestra, chamber groups, small ensembles, private lessons, and recitals. In 2022, the Trachte Music Center opened giving music makers at Lycoming and the greater Williamsport area an appropriate stage. The building boasts varied space for students to learn and grow as musicians, such as a signature rehearsal and recital space, classrooms and digital piano lab, soundproof practice rooms, music resource and instrument room, and offices for music faculty.

Dr. Fred M. & Patricia Thayer Atrium

Before going to class, rehearsal, or practice, students make their way through the Dr. Fred M. & Patricia Thayer Atrium, and right above it, the James W. “Jimmy” Sheaffer Mezzanine. On special occasions, guests enjoy refreshments and company, and students can unwind between or after rehearsal. Alongside the staircase to the mezzanine, a mural details the history of the music at Lycoming College and in Williamsport. The balcony provides a perfect view of downtown Williamsport, and the mezzanine leads to the building’s classroom and practice rooms. The atrium and mezzanine provide those using the many facilities inside the Trachte Music Center a grand welcome and place to breath.
